Happy Howl-o-ween!

Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing;
These pictures might give you a fright,
But that's what Prim loves about Halloween night!

Love in the time of Colonies

Still in time-traveling mode, Prim also visited Colonial Williamsburg this summer.

She found something that she never thought she'd find.

Love.

Well here's what happened.

Prim, as usual, made friends with the locals.  In this case, the local Colonists.

The Colonial women were very eager to give Prim advice on which hat to choose, and boy, there were a lot to choose from.

Luckily, there were elf-size hats, too.

And as Prim was trying to decide between the blue and the green and the purple ribbon, she spotted a handsome young Colonist across the way.

He was tall, fair, and handsome.  And he had undeniable style.  The hat, the collar, the buttons on his coat, the pink trousers.  Everything made Prim swoon.

But what Prim eventually realized is that, just as she must one day return to the North Pole, the young Colonist was destined to live out his days in Williamsburg.  Alas, he could not join her in her travels.

Eh, oh well.  Prim went back to the hats.  She finally decided on the one with the blue ribbon.

Pilgrim Prim

While in our nation's capital this summer, Prim visited the site of the legendary Jamestown Settlement.

And it got her thinking.

What would life have been like if she had been an elf in another era?  What if she didn't get to take vacations during the off season?  What if the children she watched over didn't believe in her magical powers?

What if...she wasn't a magical elf at all, but a pilgrim?!

Where would she have fit in among all the other settlers?

Would she have been a clergy-elf, in charge of ensuring religious freedom?

Would she have been a worker in the armory, in charge of issuing shields and sheaths?

Would she have been a farrier or a blacksmith with her own workshop?

Would she have been in charge of the cannons, overseeing the defense of the settlement?

Eh, probably none of the above.  Elves are known for their magic, not their work ethic.  Prim was exhaused just thinking about all that living history stuff...
